LtCol Doug Bahrns was born in Woodbridge, Virginia on 30 November 1980. Upon graduation of Hylton High School in 1999, he
attended the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 2003. In May of 2003, LtCol
Bahrns was commissioned a Second Lieutenant and attended The Basic School where he was designated as an infantry officer. He
graduated from the Infantry Officer's Course (IOC) in April 2004. Upon graduation of IOC he was assigned to Alpha Company, 1st
Battalion, 8th Marines (1/8).
LtCol Bahrns served in 1/8 from 2004 to 2007. During his assignment with 1/8, LtCol Bahrns served as a Rifle Platoon Commander and
the Executive Officer for Alpha Company. He deployed in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM (OIF) where he participated in
Operation PHANTOM FURY in Fallujah, Iraq. He deployed for a second time with Battalion Landing Team (BLT) 1/8 with the 24th
Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU). During this MEU deployment, he participated in the Non-Combatant Evacuation Operation of
American Citizens from the U.S. Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon.
In 2007 LtCol Bahrns was assigned to 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion. While assigned there until 2011, LtCol Bahrns served as a Recon Platoon Commander, a Force Recon Platoon Commander, and Commanded Bravo Company. He deployed twice with the Battalion,
the first deployment was in support of OIF, where he conducted reconnaissance operations in Al Anbar Province, and the second
deployment was as a Force Reconnaissance Platoon Commander with the 24th MEU. While with the 24th MEU, in 2010, he
participated in earthquake relief efforts in Haiti.
In 2011, LtCol Bahrns graduated from the Maneuver Captain's Career Course (MCCC) at Fort Benning, Georgia. Upon graduation, he
was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine (3/8) from 2011 to 2014. As the Commander of India Company, he deployed in support of
Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, where he conducted combat operations in Marjah, Afghanistan. Once he returned home from
Afghanistan he became the Battalion Operations Officer. As the Operations Officer, he planned and deployed with Special Purpose
Marine Air Ground Task Force - Africa (SPMAGTF-Africa), and the Black Sea Rotational Force (BSRF).
In 2014 LtCol Bahrns was assigned to HQMC, Manpower Management Enlisted Assignments (MMEA), where he served from 2014 to
2017. While at MMEA he worked in the Enlisted Monitor Section (MMEA-2) where he held billets as the Special Duty Assignments
Unit Head and the Deputy Section Head.
In 2017 LtCol Bahrns was selected to attend Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and graduated in 2018 and was assigned to
the 26th MEU as the Operations Officer. During his tour with the 26th MEU he completed one deployment.
LtCol Bahrns' personal awards include: Bronze Star with Combat “V”, the Meritorious Service Medal (Gold Star), Navy and Marine
Corps Commendation Medal with Combat “V”(Gold Star), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon.
LtCol Bahrns married Jana Allen Bahrns.
