Commanding Officer, 2d Battalion, 2d Marines
Lieutenant Colonel Adam S. Young

Second Lieutenant Young graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in May 2007 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and received his commission through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps.  He reported to The Basic School in August 2007, completed Infantry Officer Course in June 2008, and then received orders to Camp Lejeune, NC.

Second Lieutenant Young reported to 1st Battalion, 8th Marines and served as a rifle platoon commander in Company B.  He deployed to Iraq as part of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM 9.2 from March to September 2009.  Upon redeployment, First Lieutenant Young served as the Weapons Company Executive Officer.  He deployed from September 2010 to March 2011 to Musa Q'ala, Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM 10.2.  During this time, he served in the additional capacity of Advisor Team Deputy for the battalion's Afghan Military Advisor Team.

Following deployment, Captain Young received orders to serve as a Marine Officer Instructor at Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, VA from June 2011 to June 2014.  He served as the primary instructor and mentor for more than 180 midshipmen, preparing them for the rigors of Officer Candidates School (OCS) and future commissioned service.  He spent the summer of 2012 at OCS as a platoon commander in Company I, where he trained, evaluated, and screened candidates in the Platoon Leaders Class program. 

Captain Young was selected to attend resident Expeditionary Warfare School from July 2014 to May 2015.  Upon completion, he received orders back to 1st Battalion, 8th Marines to serve as the Company Commander of Company C.  He deployed to Sigonella, Italy from January to July 2016 as the Security Force and Ground Combat Element Theater Security Cooperation Company Commander in support of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force-Crisis Response-Africa 16.1.  Upon his return, he received orders to Advanced Infantry Training Battalion-East (AITB-E) in September 2016.

At AITB-E, Captain Young served as the Infantry Unit Leader Training Company Commander where he was responsible for the advanced infantry and leadership training of corporals through staff sergeants, as well as the execution of Scout Sniper Course and Combat Hunter.  Promoted in June 2017, Major Young served as the AITB-E Operations Officer before transitioning to the Battalion Executive Officer billet in June 2018.  In 2019, Major Young received orders to attend resident Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama, where he graduated with masters degree in Military Operational Art and Science. 

Following school in 2020, Major Young reported to 2d Battalion, 8th Marines to serve as the Executive Officer and completed the Unit Deployment Program-East 21.2 deployment to Okinawa, Japan.  Upon return, Lieutenant Colonel Young served as the Operations Officer and Executive Officer at 2d Marines where he deployed to the Southwest Border in support of U.S. Border Patrol.  He is currently selected to assume command of 2d Battalion, 2d Marines in the spring of 2024.

Lieutenant Colonel Young's personal awards include: Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat "V" (2 Gold Stars), and the Combat Action Ribbon.
